Edeka Jäger’s walk-in model at Stuttgart airport allows customers to shop at night without staff. This is made possible by the use of self-service checkouts and cashless payment systems. Edeka Jäger has also introduced AI-based age verification at the self-service checkouts at Stuttgart Airport to optimise the operation of the self-service checkout, minimise customer waiting times and reduce staff workload. Diebold Nixdorf’s AI-based solution allows customers to verify their age in less than 10 seconds without staff intervention. A camera analyses facial features in real time to verify age, without storing data or capturing images – fully GDPR compliant. Since its launch, over 80 per cent of age-restricted purchases have had their age automatically confirmed. The solution links to SCO’s checkout solution as part of the 24/7 self-service concept, enhancing the shopping experience for busy travellers.
